Extra Credit Grade Item

Modifying a grade item to be extra credit in the Categories and items area of Grades works differently than most faculty might expect. When a grade item is modified to be extra credit, its maximum value (the maximum points possible for that grade item) is not added into its parent category total (this will be the course total if you have not created categories). As such, extra credit is only applied if the student has less than the maximum points for the category or course total. If a student has already earned the maximum points possible for a category or course total, then any points earned for extra credit grade items will not be added to their grade. In other words, PolyLearn does not allow a student to earn more than the maximum points possible for the category or course total. If a student's total course grade is out of 100 points, no amount of extra credit grade items will allow them to earn a grade greater than 100 points.

Extra Credit Category

Modifying a category to be extra credit works just like an extra credit grade item: an extra credit category's total points (which is the Category total Max grade) is not added to the Course total Max grade. For example, if a category contributes 10 points to the Course total, then making it extra credit will prevent those 10 points from being added to the Course total Max grade. Like an extra credit grade item, extra credit is only applied if the student has less than the maximum points for the Course total.
