Technical Requirements

For PolyLearn to function correctly, it is necessary for the user to be using a compatible browser and that the following requirements be met:

  1. Pop-ups are enabled
  2. Cookies are enabled
  3. Java/JavaScript is installed, up-to-date, and enabled

JavaScript

If the browser's javascript is disabled, set up JavaScript by following the steps below:

PC

  • Chrome
    1. Click the customization tool in the top right corner.

    3. Click the Under the Hood option in the left panel.
    4. Click the Content settings button.
    5. Select Allow all sites to run JavaScript within the JavaScript section.

  • Firefox
    1. Click Tools.
    2. Select Options.
    3. Then select the Content tab.
    4. Click on the checkbox next to the words Enable JavaScript, then click OK.

  • Safari
    1. Click Edit.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Select Security.
    4. Click on the checkbox next to the words Enable JavaScript, then exit out of the menu.

MAC

  • Chrome
    1. Click Chrome.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Click the Under the Hood option in the left panel.
    4. Click the Content settings button.
    5. Select Allow all sites to run JavaScript within the JavaScript section.

  • Firefox
    1. Click Firefox.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Then select the Content tab.
    4. Click on the checkbox next to the words Enable JavaScript, then click OK.

Linux

  • Chrome
    1. Click Edit.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Click the Under the Hood option from the left panel.
    4. Click the Content settings button.
    5. Select Allow all sites to run JavaScript within the JavaScript section.
  • Firefox
    1. Click Edit.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Then select the Content tab.
    4. Click on the checkbox next to the words Enable JavaScript, then click Close.

  • Dolphin Browser HD
    1. Click the menu button.
    2. Click the More button.
    3. Click the Settings button.
    4. Choose Page content settings.
    5. Scroll down and check the box next to Enable JavaScript.
  • Firefox
    1. Click the menu button.
    2. Click the Preferences button.
    3. Scroll down and choose Yes next to Enable JavaScript.

Cookies

Your browser may not support cookies. If you have one of the required browser versions, enable cookies by following the steps below:

PC

  • Chrome
    1. Click the customization tool.

    3. Click the Under the Hood option in the left panel.
    4. Click the Content settings button.
    5. Select Allow local data to be set within the Cookies section.

    Firefox will keep cookies automatically from the sites that you visit.
  • Safari
    1. Click Edit.
    2. Click on Preferences.
    3. Click on Security tab
    4. Under Accept cookies, select Always

MAC

  • Chrome
    1. Click Chrome.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Click the Under the Hood option in the left panel.
    4. Click the Content settings button.
    5. Select Allow local data to be set within the Cookies section.

    4. Choose Data storage settings.
    5. Click Privacy & security.
    6. Check the box next to Allow cookies.
  • Firefox
    1. Click the menu button.
    2. Click the Preferences button.
    3. Scroll down and choose Yes next to Allow cookies.

Pop-Up Windows

Some of the features within Moodle use pop-up windows. For these tools to work pop-up windows need to be enabled within the browser. If using one of the required browser versions, pop-up windows can be enabled by following the steps below:

PC

  • Chrome
    1. Click the customization tool.
    2. Select Options.
    3. Click the Under the Hood option in the left panel.
    4. Click the Content settings button.
    5. Click Manage exceptions within the Pop-ups section.
    6. Type in polylearn.calpoly.edu with Allow selected in the Pull-down menu.

    8. Press enter/return.
  • Firefox
    1. Click Tools.
    2. Select Options.
    3. Select Content tab.
    4. If the checkbox next to Block pop-up windows is checked, click on Exceptions.
    5. Under Address of web site, type in polylearn.calpoly.edu and press Allow.

    7. Click Close.
  • Safari
    1. Click Edit.
    2. Click on Prefrences.
    3. Click on the Security tab.
    4. Next to Block pop-up windows, be sure that the box is unchecked.

MAC

  • Chrome
    1. Click Chrome.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Click the Under the Hood option in the left panel.
    4. Click the Content settings button.
    5. Click Manage exceptions within the Pop-ups section.
    6. Type in polylearn.calpoly.edu with Allow selected in the Pull-down menu.

    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Select Content tab.

    5. Scroll down and uncheck the box next to Block pop-up windows.
  • Firefox
    Firefox Mobile will give the option to allow pop-up windows as they occur. There is no setting in order to disable the pop-up blocker.
